Brian (BR), Heather and I were all marching band geeks members together back in high school in Virginia Beach, so I was thrilled when Heather called and asked us to photograph their wedding in DC! I was even more thrilled when she mentioned a “sunset tour of the monuments” that she wanted photographed immediately following their reception. Fast forward a few months and the big day had arrived. I flew out early Friday to photograph their rehearsal dinner (which was ridiculously fun… karoake, broadway singers/actors, little kids singing highly inappropriate songs… all the staples of a good party =D) and Adrienne flew in later that night. The forecast called for rain.
What the forecast didn’t call for was a power outage on Fort Myer. With two hours to go before the ceremony, the entire wedding had to be moved to a different chapel because the Old Post Chapel had no power. This was the first (and the biggest) of a few hiccups throughout the day, but Brian and Heather handled it all calmly and gracefully. Despite the surprises thrown at them that day, they ended up having one of the most beautiful and heartfelt wedding days we’ve seen.
Oh, and that “sunset tour of the monuments”… more like “monsoon tour of the monuments”. Did that stop them? Nope. The flashes went into ziplocs and the camera into a trashbag. We were all soaked to the bone by the end of the night, but we got some great images to show for it. With that said, check it:

By the way, if you ever want to:
a) attract a lot of attention to yourself and,
b) have a nice conversation with the police about the importance of permits and parking spaces,
then you should definitely grab your camera, some trashbags, a bride and a groom and run around in the rain in downtown Washington, D.C. Bonus points if you make it longer than 15 minutes at the Jefferson Memorial before getting the boot.
Thanks for a great weekend Heather and BR, and thanks for proving that it doesn’t take everything coming together perfectly to make a happy wedding day – I’ll try to keep that in mind on December 13th!
